Andrzej Szczypiorski was a Polish novelist and political activist who fought in the Warsaw Uprising as a teenager and was imprisoned in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. He became a prominent dissident under Communism and was elected to the Polish Senate after 1989. His novel The Beautiful Mrs. Seidenman became an international bestseller, translated into over thirty languages.
