How hard is a book, really?
Every book on ReadingRate carries a difficulty score built from nine dimensions, so you can compare Ulysses to an airport thriller before committing a month of evenings to it.
Technical difficulty
How hard the prose is to parse: vocabulary, sentence structure, abstraction, and information density.
Interpretive difficulty
How hard the meaning is to extract: narrative indirection, symbolic density, ironic distance, resolution withholding, and structural complexity.
Know when you'll finish
Word counts and a measured reading pace turn "748 pages" into "about 31 hours". Log a few sessions and the estimate stops being an average and becomes yours: your pace, by book, genre, and time of day.
