Tomas Tranströmer won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2011 for "his condensed, translucent images" that "give us fresh access to reality." The Swedish poet wrote spare, imagistic poems about consciousness and nature. He suffered a stroke in 1990 that left him unable to speak; he continued writing. He died in 2015.
